Spiced Ladoo (sweet cookie balls)
This is a favourite amongst our volunteers. We don’t have an oven, or scales so this is our delicious alternative to cookies and you may need to experiment a bit with the quantities! We enjoyed this as part of our Organic Jungle Christmas vegetarian lunch on the farm last year!
Ingredients (per person):
2oz/50g Organic wholewheat flour, freshly ground if possible
½ oz/12g Organic unsalted butter or ghee
Organic sweet spices – 1 cardamon, 1 cloves, 1″ cinnamon, 1/2tsp ginger powder
½ oz Organic jaggery or sugar
Take 1 cup of wholewheat flour and a little butter.
Place in a heavy frying pan.
Heat the pan over a moderate to high heat.
When the flour turns golden take off the heat. If the flour starts to burn turn the heat down.
Add jaggery (1 tablespoon per cup of flour) and add ground cardamom, or a combination of any or all the spices, finely ground.
Add a large spoon of butter and stir in. It should melt completely and the biscuit material should become moist.
Roll the mix into balls using your hands. If it’s too crumbly add more melted butter.
For an extra special touch, dip in organic cooking chocolate! Delicious when the chocolate has set, but the laddoo are still warm. Jaya Ganesha! Yum!
